Henry “Harry” Anthony Shorter, Jr., 83, of Benedict passed peacefully June 16 at his son and daughter in law’s home in Annapolis. Born June 14, 1930 in Washington, DC, he was the son of Henry A. Shorter and Pearl Hitch Shorter. Harry proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in the early 1950′s. He later took over as the owner and operator of Shorter’s Restaurant in Benedict, which was started by his grandfather “Captain Tobe” Shorter in the early 1900′s. Harry served on the Board of Directors of Community Bank of Tri-County in Waldorf, MD for nearly 30 years and was also a member of the Board of Directors for Civista Hospital (formerly Physicians Memorial Hospital). Harry was known for his generosity to community organizations, including the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department. Harry enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends, travelling and dining in fine restaurants, but his true passion was the life of a waterman. He loved tonging oysters, crabbing, fishing and everything related to boats and the Patuxent River. He enjoyed life to the fullest.
