On June 28, 2013 Rebecca “Becky” K Weems will retire after having served the citizens of Calvert County for more than 29 years. Becky began working for Calvert County on March 19, 1984 as a Communications Officer 1, after having applied for the position numerous times. She was promoted to Senior Communications Officer in February 1995 and to Communications Supervisor in September 2006. In April 2011, Becky was promoted to Communications Assistant Chief in the Control Center in the Division of Public Safety. During her outstanding career in the Control Center, Becky was named Optimist Club’s Respect for Law Award winner for June 2013. She also won the Respect for Law Tele-communicator Supervisor of the year for May 2000 and APCO International winner for Tele-communicator Supervisor of the Year for April 2000. She was awarded Employee of the Month for November 1987, a Certificate of Appreciation for her hard work during Hurricane Irene in August 2011, a Unit Citation for working Tropical Storm Ernesto in September 2006, and was recognized by the county with a Team Excellence Award for teamwork displayed during an intense, life-threatening, rescue call involving two school buses, with more than 60 students on board, in April [...]
