At his weekly press briefing today, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said the president’s misguided policies – from his national energy tax that will make energy less affordable for families and small businesses, to his unwillingness to resolve the impasse over student loan interest rates – are standing in the way of economic growth and job creation. Boehner contrasted the president’s policies with the Republican Plan for Economic Growth and Jobs that calls for an all-of-the-above energy agenda, approval of the Keystone pipeline, and other policies that will help get the economy back on track. Following are Speaker Boehner’s remarks: “Yesterday we learned that the economy in the first quarter grew at an anemic rate of 1.8 percent, another sign that the Obama economy is producing slow economic growth, high unemployment, and stagnant wages. As I said last week, this cannot become the ‘new normal.’ “That’s why Republicans are continuing to listen to the American people, and offering a real jobs plan for American families and small businesses.
