Registered Nurse, Darla Olson, decided to retire after 30 years as the Calvert County Detention Center Nurse. Darla will retire on June 30, 2013. Darla Olsen’s admirable career began on November 3, 1983, by Public Safety Director Marvin Riddle. At the time, Jack Upton was Administrative Director, the Sheriff was Adrian Joy and the Jail Administrator was Captain Ed Kirby. She has served under five different sheriffs and four administrators. When Darla first took the job, there were approximately 80 inmates and today there are over 250. During her tenure at the Detention Center, she worked with closely with ConMed Healthcare Management Inc, and due to her knowledge and work ethic, she provided reliable and exemplary service, gaining trust, admiration and tremendous respect from the Detention Center staff. Darla constantly went above and beyond her regular duties while providing care and treatment to individuals incarcerated at the center. She has volunteered her time in the community and participated in the County EMS/Fire Appreciation Day.
