On Saturday, June, 29, 2013, at 5:30 pm, police, fire, and rescue crews responded to the report of a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles. Crews arrived on the scene to discover a Toyota Solara had struck a parked Saturn Vue, that was occupied, in the parking lot of the Sign of the Whale Liquor Store in Lexington Park. Investigation revealed that Daniel Patrick Loftus, 38 of Leonardtown, had lost consciousness while driving southbound on Three Notch Road. According to Loftus and witnesses on the scene, Loftus had passed out in the area of FDR Boulevard and left the roadway. Loftus’s Solara continued on after striking a tree and hit the parked Saturn. The Saturn was occupied by an adult male and a 8 month old child. The infant was secured in a car seat at the time of the accident. After the accident, Loftus tried to drive away but could not get his vehicle free. A bystander ran over to Loftus’s vehicle; placed it in park and removed the keys.
