Students, faculty, and administrators gathered this week with Stafford County Public Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Randy Bridges, School Board Vice Chair Meg Bohmke, and representatives of the design and construction team to kick-off construction activities at the official groundbreaking of the new Stafford High School in Stafford, Virginia. HESS Construction, a leading builder of educational facilities in the Mid-Atlantic, was selected by Stafford County Public Schools to manage construction of the replacement high school. The 289,000 square-foot, three-level school will support a core capacity of 2,000 students and house traditional classrooms as well as specialty laboratory spaces for chemistry, biology, earth science, physics, marine science, and health and medical science. Vocational training areas include culinary arts, fine arts, cosmetology, construction technology, drafting, masonry, electrical, carpentry, a small engine laboratory, and a free standing automotive shop. Additional features of the new school include an 800-seat auditorium, 700-seat cafeteria, 2,000-seat gymnasium, television studio, media center, distance learning, and cyber café. The $58 Million Stafford High School was designed by Grimm + Parker Architects to achieve LEED certification by employing energy management and water conservation strategies.
