With millions of Americans still out of work, President Obama delivered another lengthy speech last week declaring, again, that he was going to “pivot back to the economy.” The speech was long in words but short on new ideas and initiatives. In fact, he delivered the exact same speech at the exact same location in Galesburg, IL five years ago. So it is clear that the Obama administration and their congressional allies are out of ideas. The time for talk is over, we need principled leadership and solutions, not recycled speeches that are filled with platitudes. Economic growth is right around the corner with a change in leadership but it also requires a return to economic basics: First, we must enact a pro-growth, comprehensive tax reform agenda that lowers rates, gradually phases out cronyism and puts more of your hard-earned money in your pocket, not theirs. Second, we must hold our growing administrative state accountable for the suffocating red-tape they have burdened our businesses with. A simple cost-benefit analysis for any proposed regulation is a priority for a small business owner such as me.
