Jean Russo Lecture on Risking All in Early Maryland

Lecture at HSMC on September  Disease, Death, and Demography. On Thursday, September 5, historian, author, and lecturer Jean Russo, Ph. D. will discuss the challenges that confronted individuals and society in early Maryland. With a hostile disease environment, a skewed sex ratio, the lack of protective kinship networks, and the absence of a stable social hierarchy, what did it take for them to realize their aspirations? Find out when Russo presents Risking All in Early Maryland: Disease, Death, and Demography. This free illustrated lecture will take place at 7 pm in the Historic St. Mary’s City Visitor Center auditorium (18751 Hogaboom Lane). Historic St. Mary’s City is a museum of living history and archaeology on the site of Maryland’s first capital in beautiful, tidewater Southern Maryland.
