On Saturday, Aug 24, 2013, the American Legion Post 274 in Lusby was alive with the roar of motorcycle engines. The bikes and their riders were taking part in the 2nd annual Poker Run to benefit Hunter’s Heroes Ride for the Cure. The poker run is in memory of Hunter Dean Scott, who passed away from brain cancer at the age of 7 in July 2011. Hunter’s Heroes, Inc. is a non-profit organization and the proceeds support local children fighting cancer and funding for pediatric cancer research. The fundraiser was sponsored by the Sons of the Legion (SAL) Squadron 274. The SAL Commander, Bud Caspar, has been a friend of the Scott family for years, and when the SAL was approached about holding a fundraiser, he was onboard without hesitation. The run kicked off at the Post Home on H G Trueman Road in Lusby. The cycles and cars (yes, there were some of those also), made their way to the Green Turtle in Prince Frederick for the 1st Draw and then to Seabreeze in Mechanicsville for the 2nd card.
