The 4th Annual Solomons Grand Prix was held on the Solomons waterfront September 12, 13, 14 and 15th. The event was presented by the Chesapeake Bay Power Boat Association (CBPBA), Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA) Racing and Bayside Chevrolet. There were many sponsors supporting the races and included Solomons Business Association, Chesapeake Bay Power Boat Association, Holiday Inn, Miss GEICO Racing, The McNelis Group, Beautiful Kitchens, Calvert County, Bunky’s Charter Boats, Old Line bank, SMECO, Bozick Distributors and Coalition Solutions Integrated. Many planned events were enjoyed by race fans, families and even the youngsters. The crowd was taking in the sights and sounds under the Thomas Johnson Bridge, viewing the boats, meeting the drivers and throttlemen, getting autographs and watching the huge crane lifting boats in and out of the water. On Thursday night, Happy Hour at Kingfishers was the start of the festivities from 6 pm to 8 pm. And there was music, food and fun throughout Solomons, for little or no cost at Kingfishers, Striped Rock, Solomons Pier and the Tiki Bar on Friday night.
