Brings Fresh Maryland Food to Public Schools Students in hundreds of public schools across the state will get a taste of fresh, Maryland-grown and produced food in their lunches during the sixth annual Maryland Homegrown School Lunch Week, September 23-27. A statewide celebration with special educational activities and local lunch with students, farmers, and state and local officials will take place at Pangborn Elementary School in Washington County from 10:00 am to noon, Monday, September 23, followed by a tour of Misty Meadows Farm Creamery in Smithsburg (Washington County) starting at 12:15 pm. Now celebrating its sixth year, Homegrown School Lunch Week is designed to help educate students about where their food comes from, how it is produced, and the benefits of a healthy diet as well as to expand markets for Maryland farmers.
