SUV Hits School Bus; Minor Injuries Reported

Several North Point High School students received minor injuries Wednesday, September 25 when the bus they were riding was involved in an accident. Around 7:50 am, the driver of a Cadillac Escalade struck a curb on Davis Road in Waldorf, lost control of the vehicle and struck bus 62 head on, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. The bus was headed to North Point and had 36 students and  the driver on board. No one on the bus had serious injuries. One student was released to her parents on the scene and the rest of the students were transported to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata. A majority of the students were transported to the hospital via a secondary school bus and were treated and released. The remaining students and bus driver were taken by ambulance and treated by hospital staff for minor injuries and released. The driver of the SUV, a 47-year-old Washington, D.C. woman, was flown to a hospital with injuries that were determined to be non life-threatening. The Charles County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Operations Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
