The Charles County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Charles County Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge 24 and the Charles County Correctional Officers Association (CCCOA) hosted the Zombie Invasion 5K on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Laurel Springs Regional Park in La Plata to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland. What a fun, family-friendly event in which participants “transitioned” into zombies, before completing the 5K! A foggy start of the event at 8 am seemed appropriate and ended in a beautiful sunny day as the participants crossed the finish line. Those, who registered for the 5K before November 9th, were provided with their commemorative T-shirt’s. A limited supply of T-shirts were also available during the registration. The 5K began at 10 am. Volunteers from the Port Tobacco Theater and local high school drama clubs helped those that needed help transitioning into zombies, others arrived “zombie-fied.” Some chose to run the 5K as a race, which was conducted, using “chipped timing,” while others walked, some with strollers.
