The Department of Community Services Housing Authority is soliciting local nonprofit agencies and businesses to assist eligible homeowners without indoor plumbing. Assistance is needed to help homeowners through the application process and construction phase of the Economic Development Initiative Grant Plumbing Program. The program is designed to assist low-income homeowners in Charles County obtain indoor plumbing for their principal residence. A kickoff meeting for local nonprofits and businesses will be held Thursday, December 5 at 7 pm at New Life Church (9690 Shepherds Creek Place, La Plata). Through this newly structured program, local nonprofit agencies and businesses will have the opportunity to act as advocates for eligible homeowners, provide homeowners with assistance through the application process, and work with contractors to complete necessary construction/repairs. Participating nonprofit agencies and businesses may be awarded up to $2,000 for each referral of a homeowner that successfully completes the program. “I am delighted that we are bringing together local nonprofits and businesses to provide these needed services.
