Santa Comes to Leonardtown

On Friday, November 29th, Leonardtown’s annual “Christmas on the Square” and “Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony” was held on Washington Street in Leonardtown Square. There was live entertainment with holiday music, sleigh rides, horse & carriage rides, train rides, hay rides, fire truck rides, a petting zoo, a live nativity, face painting, make-and-take crafts, festive decorations, food and much more! Mrs. Claus’ had a tent for stories and crafts, and Santa arrived and turned on the switch to light up the Christmas tree. Stage performances included Bella School of Music, Piney Point Elementary School, Gracie’s Guys and Gals Dance Troupe, the Leonardtown Baptist Church Choir, and the Bootscooters! The music put everyone in the holiday mood, as they browsed the downtown merchants and art galleries that stayed open for Christmas shopping. This year many of the rides boarded in front of Winegardner Automotive and traveled around the Historical Part of Town, including Tudor Hall, The Old Jail Museum and the Historic Courthouse Building. The riders traveled into the past with beautifully decorated buildings, luminaries and Christmas carolers.
