House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Institute for Supply Management released its report for November: “This morning’s Institute for Supply Management report shows the strongest gains for manufacturing in two and a half years, building on last month’s solid gains and proving that our manufacturers have what it takes to make it in America. However, in order to compete in a changing global marketplace, our manufacturing sector needs greater support from Congress and the economic certainty that can only come from clear, long-term budget and tax policies. That’s why Congress must achieve the kind of balanced fiscal approach that private sector leaders have called for. “House Democrats, joined by colleagues across the aisle, have put forward a strong legislative package to help our manufacturing sector expand and create the jobs and opportunities that can sustain a growing middle class. Our Make It In America plan, along with a complementary plan introduced last month in the Senate, represents a serious effort to create jobs and invest in our country’s long-term manufacturing competitiveness.
