On Saturday, February 8, 2014, the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) will offer special testing in St. Mary’s County to interested students. This testing will be available to all 2nd-8th grade students who have enrolled in the 2013-2014 CTY Talent Search by January 25, 2014. Testing takes place at Evergreen Elementary School, 43765 Evergreen Way, California, Maryland 20619 on Saturday, February 8, from 8:30-10:15 am. Please see the school website for directions. Since 1979, the Johns Hopkins CTY Talent Search has recognized talent in students of great academic promise. The test used by CTY—the School and College Abilities test—is a timed, multiple-choice exam, focused on math and verbal reasoning skills. It is an above-grade-level test that CTY recommends for children who achieve at the advanced-proficiency level on state tests or who otherwise demonstrate high academic ability. Through this testing, families may discover more about their child’s math or verbal abilities. Students may also qualify for CTY’s summer or online courses for highly gifted young people, and take advantage of other CTY resources.
