The Calvert County Board of License Commissioners (Liquor Board) is asking for a significant package of changes to the Alcoholic Beverages license laws for Calvert County in Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland. They ask the you review the information, and if you have any questions, please contact the Board. They have a number of issues with the existing laws applicable to Calvert County alcoholic beverages licensees, and are attempting to get legislative approval for modifications of these laws. The board is proposing the following legislation: 1) The Liquor Board needs the authority to impose fines as disciplinary measures. While we understand that you will not like hearing the word “fine”, let us explain that, under the current law, the only disciplinary measures currently available to us, are suspension or revocation of a license. We feel that in most cases, a fine or fine and short suspension are appropriate, rather than a longer suspension which will disrupt your business and financially damage not only the business but also the employees of the business and their families.
