On January 1st, members of the Anne Arundel County Police Department were dispatched to a home on Oakdale Circle in Millersville for a possible suicidal subject. Upon arrival, officers met with a person who was concerned about their relative, later identified as Todd Wheeler. Upon encountering Wheeler, officers observed serious injuries to his upper body. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department was then requested to the scene and transported Wheeler to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with injuries that appeared to have been caused by a chemical or mechanical reaction. Being suspicious of the circumstances surrounding Wheeler’s injuries, officers contacted the Police Department’s Intelligence Unit, Criminal Investigations Unit and the Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Bureau. Based on the evidence obtained, the investigation of the Edgerly Road home was begun. The investigation at the Edgerly Road home began at 11:30 Thursday morning January 2nd, and concluded late in the evening on Friday, January 3rd. During the search of the residence, officials located numerous completed destructive devices. More than 100 pounds of chemicals including acids, fuels, oxidizers and explosive precursors were located. Additional destructive device components including igniters and detonators were also found.
