The College Board named 257 Charles County Public Schools students as Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars earlier this school year in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college level Advanced Placement Program exams. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers high school students the opportunity to take challenging college level courses to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP exams. The program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through AP courses and exams with the AP Scholar Awards. Each award-winning student receives a certificate, and the award is acknowledged on any AP score report that is sent to colleges after the award has been conferred. Students took AP exams in May 2013 after completing challenging college-level courses at their high schools. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on student performance on AP exams. The students recognized this year include graduates from the Class of 2013, as well as current Charles County Public School students. Eleven students qualified for the National AP Scholar award.
