Tecumseh and Conflicting Native Views on the War of 1812

Perhaps the most untold story of the War of 1812 is that of the War’s impact on American Indians. On Sunday, January 19 at 3:00 pm in the new auditorium at the College of Southern Maryland Prince Frederick Campus, historian Dr. Donald L. Fixico will discuss Tecumseh and Conflicting Native Views on the War of 1812. Professor Fixico is a distinguished foundation professor of history in the School of Historical, Philosophical & Religious at Arizona State University. He is a Native scholar from Oklahoma and has worked on twenty documentaries about American Indians including the PBS documentary “The War of `1812.” In 2012, he worked as a consultant for the Canadian documentary “Tecumseh and the War of 1812.” This lecture is part of the War of 1812: A Legacy of Division series which offers a wide range of perspectives on this “forgotten conflict.” The series is presented in celebration of the War of 1812 Bicentennial by Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum, in partnership with the Calvert Marine Museum, and College of Southern Maryland. Funding is provided by the Maryland Humanities Council, Friends of Jefferson Patterson Park, Star-Spangled 200, Inc., and the Calvert Marine Museum.
