Calvert County officials joined citizens, business leaders and labor representatives on Tuesday in Annapolis to show strong support for Dominion’s plan to export natural gas from its Cove Point terminal. Dominion has applied to federal, state and local agencies for permission to build a facility to liquefy America’s surplus natural gas so it can be sold to countries looking for new sources of clean energy. While the $3.8-billion facility would be the largest capital project in Maryland, it also would be built entirely within its existing fence line without affecting an 800-acre conservation easement that surrounds it on the Chesapeake Bay. The following speakers provided positive comments at the media briefing: • County Support – Commissioner Jerry Clark, Calvert County Board of County Commissioners • Labor Support – Vance T. Ayres, Executive Secretary-Treasurer, Washington, D.C., Building and Construction Trades Council • Community Support – Annamaria Murphy, RN, Lusby • Business Support – Chris McNelis, The McNelis Group, Solomons
