On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, Sheriff Mike Evans of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, along with Major Dave McDowell, presented seven new graduating deputies to the Calvert Board of County Commissioners for a swearing-in ceremony. Many of the new graduates came from families, whose members had been law enforcement, either in the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office or the Maryland State Police. There were several law enforcement officers, who were family from out of state. Those new deputies were able to have their relative pin on their badge. Commissioner President Pat Nutter had the privilege of pinning the badge on Tamika Roberts. Commissioner Nutter is a retired Lieutenant from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office. Retired Lieutenant Eddie Bowen of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office pinned his grandson Joshua Buck’s badge. Clerk of the Court Kathy Smith swore in the new deputies.. Since taking office in 2002, Sheriff Evans has begun a tradition of swearing in new deputy sheriffs in front of the commissioners. This provides a venue for the new deputies, their families, friends, fellow deputies, the Board of County Commissioners and the general public to commemorate this special occasion.
