Junior Waterfowl Hunting Day Set for February

A junior hunter displays his waterfowl harvest Experienced waterfowl hunters are invited to introduce young people to the sport during a Junior Waterfowl Hunting Day on February 8. On this date, hunters 15 years of age or younger may hunt ducks, geese, mergansers and coots on public and private lands when aided by a qualifying adult. To participate, junior hunters must be accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old. All young hunters and their adult mentors must possess a Maryland hunting license or be exempt from the hunting license requirement. Adults may take more than one young hunter and assist in the hunt, but cannot possess a hunting weapon. Young waterfowl hunters must also possess a receipt showing their purchase of a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp. Hunters under the age of 16 do not need to purchase a federal duck stamp. The bag limits for the Junior Waterfowl Hunting Day are the same as the regular season: •6 ducks total, to include no more than: 5 long-tailed ducks, 4 scoters, 4 mallards (max. 2 hen mallards), 2 scaup, 3 wood ducks, 2 pintails, 2 redheads, 2 hooded mergansers, 2 canvasbacks, 1 black duck, 1 fulvous tree duck, […]
