Calvert County Second Graders Learn Recycling, Reuse & Green Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons, invites all writers to join us at the Murray Arts Building each weekday from noon to 1:30 pm, to come learn how the staff at Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center teaches children about environmental awareness. Two years ago, the program’s lead teacher, Tom Harten, approached AMG with the concept of adding to the school system’s existing program called “Help Save the Earth.” The program is designed specifically for second-grader and teaches them about recycling, reusing and reducing waste. “The AMG portion [of the program] has been such a great addition to our second grade program and is very popular with our students and teachers,” says Harten. Each day several staff dress up in their alter ego uniforms and don names such as Commander Green, Lady Rots-A-Lot, Princess Pop Top, Zero Waster, Contessa of Compost, Dora the Restorer, and Wizard of Waste.
