Calvert Board of Education Receives Update from Dominion Cove Point

On Thursday, February 6, 2014, the Calvert County Board of Education received an update on the progress being made at Dominion Cove Point. The members of the board were very interested in Vice President of LNG Operations Mike Frederick’s presentation. Board member Dawn Balinski asked numerous questions regarding traffic, safety, and environmental issues. Ms. Balinski asked about the safety of the schools should an accident happen at the Cove Point facility. Mr. Frederick assured her that it was very unlikely that an accident at the facility would affect the schools. It was more likely that an accident at Calvert Cliffs would impact the schools near the facility but that Dominion has a plan in place for all emergencies. She also wanted information on what the environmental impact on Cove Point would be to the residents. Mike Frederick said that as of now they are undergoing an environmental assessment. When federal agencies issue a permit, they will do either an environmental assessment, or an EA, or an environmental impact statement, an EIS.
