Our 2014 Distinguished Young Women (DYW) of Southern Maryland Scholarship Program Winners are: 2014 Distinguished Young Woman Olivia Kennedy, 2014 DYW of Chesapeake and Interview Winner Becky Olsen, 2014 Talent Winner and Spirit Award Winner Destini Monk, 2014 Physical Fitness Winner Brelynn Hunt, and 2014 Scholastic Winner CheBreia Gibbs. Distinguished Young Women of Southern Maryland is an official local preliminary of Distinguished Young Women, a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women. In addition to earning scholarships for college, those who participate in the Distinguished Young Women program develop friendships, self-confidence and other life skills that pave the way for future success. The Distinguished Young Women experience is open to every eligible young woman and there is no cost to participate. The competition for scholarships begins at the local level, in towns and cities like yours. Participants from throughout the region join together in Waldorf, Maryland, where a panel of five judges will select the representative(s) who will move on to the next level of competition at Distinguished Young Women of Maryland.
