Beloved Park Ranger Retires After 25 Years

On April 13, 2013, Jacqueline E Waymire retired, after having served in Calvert County Government for 25 years. The Calvert Board of County Commissioners honored her with a proclamation. Ms. Waymire started with Calvert County in 1986 as a seasonal employee with Parks and Recreation. During her years with the County, she also served as a Building Supervisor, Recreation Assistant Coordinator, and Park Ranger and Park Manager for Department of Natural Resources. A Maryland Park Ranger devotes professional responsibility for stewardship and protection of Maryland’s natural and historic resources.  In carrying out that duty, a Ranger incorporates education, enforcement, management, conservation, or some combination of these skills in regular interaction with the public. Kings Landing Park was like a home to Jacqueline. Here it was that she directed Junior Rangers and built the amphitheater and put on many plays. Shakespeare was a favorite. Under her supervision, 260 youngsters learned how to be good citizens. Jackie will be sorely missed at Kings Landing Park, where she knew the trees, the birds, the marshes and the ecosystem and all the Junior Rangers, who helped her in her quest to make it a special place for visitors.
