The economic ‘recovery’ that the Obama administration heralded on the pages of The New York Times nearly three years ago remains “agonizingly shallow,” with “nearly 8 million people in the U.S. who want a better job” and “more than 11.5 million… unemployed,” the Wall Street reports. Thousands of those underemployed or out-of-work Americans could have had a shot at making a better future for themselves and their families, but President Obama has denied them that opportunity by blocking the Keystone pipeline. After rejecting and personally lobbying against the Keystone pipeline, the Obama administration continues to delay a final decision, putting 20,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs on hold indefinitely. Over the more than four years the administration has held up Keystone, “the unemployment rate in the construction industry reached over 27% in 2010, and joblessness in construction remains far higher than any industry or sector, with over 1 million construction workers currently unemployed in the United States,” David Mallino of the Laborers’ International Union of North America recently told the House Energy and Commerce Report.
