On Tuesday, May 7 at approximately 9:15 p.m., authorities were alerted to a vehicle crashed into a building in Charlotte Hall. The building housed Fred’s Liquors and other establishments. When authorities arrived they discovered a white van had crashed into the rear of the building, knocking a hole in the wall. The suspect then apparently walked across Golden Beach Road to the Charlotte Hall Exxon and paid $20 for gas and a Styrofoam cooler and tried to pump gas into the cooler, which failed. A La Plata Police officer saw the activity and stopped. That officer detained the suspect until St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s arrived. According to reports, the suspect stated that his power steering had failed as the reason he crashed into the building. No other information is available at this time.
