Social Services Advisory Board Honors Local Foster Family May marks National Foster Care Month. On April 20th, President Barack Obama proclaimed, as a nation, that we recognize the foster parents and professionals who work every day to lift up the hundreds of thousands of foster children in their care. As part of that commitment, on May 21nd Calvert Creations, the Advisory Board of the Calvert County Department of Social Services, will recognize Venton and Rebecca Chaney as Calvert County’s Foster Parents of the year for their outstanding care and commitment to both Calvert County children and their families. Rebecca and Venton Chaney are model foster parents. They understand that when you take a foster child into your home you are an important bridge between the child and the child’s family. Not only do they consistently supervise visits between the foster children and the natural or biological families but they often do it in their own home. They model parenting skills and mentor the parents. The Chaney’s also include families in the medical care and counseling appointments of the children, even providing transportation to the families when needed.
