Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will join Colonel Marcus L. Brown as the keynote speaker for the graduation ceremonies of the 139th Trooper Candidate Class of the Maryland State Police. The class of 51 graduates is the most diverse class in recent State Police history. The trooper candidates have completed six months of training in a residential police academy that demands their very best, at all times. After graduation, each trooper will have to complete eight weeks of additional field training with an experienced trooper before they are able to patrol alone. Families, friends and fellow members of the Maryland State Police will be present at the graduation ceremony. This class includes seven military veterans, two prior police officers and two paramedics. Also in this class, there are ten new troopers who are following in the footsteps of family members. The 139th Candidate Class raised more than $2,500 for Autism Awareness and over $16,000 for the Special Olympics during their training.
