Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michael J. Martirano, announces the administrative appointments made by the Board of Education at its meeting of June 26, 2013. The Board appointed Ms. Jessica A. Western as Certification Coordinator in the Department of Human Resources. Ms. Western is currently a Dean of Students in Calvert County Public Schools. She is a Doctoral Candidate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies through The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Ms. Western holds a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and a Master’s degree in American Studies, both from the University of Maryland. She earned her certification for teaching through the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. The Board appointed Dr. Curtis Alston as Principal at Lexington Park Elementary School. Dr. Alston joined St. Mary’s County Public Schools in July 2009 as an Assistant Principal. He also has prior experience as Dean of Students at Bennett Middle School and as a 6th grade general education teacher at Salisbury Middle School, both in Salisbury, Maryland. Dr. Alston holds an Educational Doctorate in Administrative Leadership for Teaching and Learning from Walden University.
