Hoyer Statement on Bipartisan Senate Committee Passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act: “I am pleased that the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions approved the Employment Non-Discrimination Act today by a strong bipartisan vote of 15-7. No American should face discrimination in hiring or in the workplace for any reason, and Congress ought to move forward with this bill to ensure that LGBT Americans can participate fully in our economy without fear of harassment at work, being unfairly fired, or being turned down for a job. I hope that the full Senate will act soon to pass this legislation, and I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle toward its passage through the House and enactment into law.”
