House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after he attended the memorial service for the firefighters killed in the Arizona wildfires: “Today, as I stood with the families of the nineteen fallen firefighters in Prescott Valley, Arizona, I joined in remembering their dedication, their courage, and their sacrifice as they fought to save their community from one of the region’s most devastating wildfires. Members of an elite crew of firefighters, they put their lives on the line time and again, knowing full well the dangers of the job. I was moved by the outpouring of support and love from the people of Prescott, Yarnell, and the surrounding communities for the families of the fallen. When tragedy strikes, it is in our nature as Americans to rally together, to comfort one another, and to lend a helping hand as those touched by hardship and loss begin the process of rebuilding their lives. “The families who lost their homes and those still recovering from injuries are in the thoughts and prayers today of Americans across the country.
