On August 20, 2013, Willy Dean of Ridge found two 8 ft Bull Sharks in his pound net, about 200 yards from where people were swimming. The two males weighed approximately 220 to 230 pounds. He said that several years ago another one was in his pound net that was 8 ft 6 inches and weighed about 300 pounds and was also a male. Willie said he was concerned because the Bull Sharks travel in schools and are known to be aggressive. There are many children who swim in the area where they were captured. On this particular trip to the pound nets, Willy was accompanied by biologists from Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and he said they were excited as they had never seen Bull Sharks face to face. Willy Dean works with DNR on fish sampling several times a month and it just happened to be the day the sharks were there. One of the sharks had made a meal of the rockfish in the pound net, eating everything from the dorsal fin back. The Bull Sharks were taken back to Buzz’s Marina in Ridge.
