House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today announced that he has tapped Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) to deliver the Weekly Republican Address on Saturday, September 14. Rep. Black will discuss legislation the House passed this week to prevent and fraud and abuse in the president’s health care law – just the latest in a string of bipartisan efforts to protect taxpayers from this costly and unpopular law. Similar legislation was approved with bipartisan support by a committee in the Democratic-controlled Senate weeks ago. All that is needed now to send legislation to President Obama’s desk is a vote by the full Senate. “Families and workers are already struggling under the president’s health care law, which is driving up costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire – they shouldn’t be on the hook for billions of dollars in fraud too,” Speaker Boehner said. “The House has just passed Diane Black’s bill to protect taxpayers by stopping the Obama administration from handing out subsidies based on the ‘honor system.’ A similar proposal was approved with bipartisan support in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
