On January 9, 2014 at 1:04 pm, a fire at 11675 Englewood Drive, La Plata was discovered by a passer-by. La Plata, Bel Alton, Benedict, Bryans Road, Hughesville, Newburg, Potomac Heights, and Waldorf Volunteer Fire Departments responded. The preliminary cause of the barn fire was determined to be a result of an electrical malfunction within the electrical and tack room.
